2nd Jan: Chelsea vs Liverpool Betting Preview

Its a new year but the football is well underway and there is plenty of action for us to get stuck into from a betting perspective.

Across the Premier League today there are four games and each of them presents challenges in trying to work out which way they will go - I don't think there is a clear-cut game today.

For the betting preview we have decided to take a closer look into the standout game of the day Chelsea vs Liverpool with a view to finding a value betting angle that can land followers a tidy profit.

It is safe to say that both teams have been less than impressive in recent weeks and while they have still managed to pick up points, performances have been lacking and this has allowed Manchester City to take a commanding lead in the title-race and maybe they can't be caught now.

One this is for certain, the team that loses this game will at least eleven points behind the league leaders and surely will be out of the race so there is a lot of motivation in this for both teams.

Based on the recent news articles it appears the Lukaku has managed to talk his way out of the squad for the game today which means Chelsea will come into this game even more hampered.

With AFCON just around the corner this is likely the last game we will see Salah and Mane leading the line for Liverpool as well which might give them a boost to go out with a bang.

This is a game where statistics can largely be ignored as it often bucks the trends when it comes around and the last three encounters have seen under 2.5 goals. I am expecting that to change today as both team push to win this game - I am also expecting it to be a bit heated with some big tackles early on.

I like the look of Rudiger to get a yellow card in this one at odds of 3.00 but for the value pick I am taking:

Tip: 60+ Match Booking Points / Over 5.5 Cards

Odds: 3.00

A heated game that could see plenty of cards, I like the value in this selection. It also provides safety in not looking for cards from a single team which means it can swing depending on how the game pans out.
